(or, the post I should have made over a week ago)

The Cardinal's Nest is up and running! Though I haven't yet had the chance to go myself, a number of folks in the area have posted primarily positive experiences on both on the Brookland listserv and their blogs.

A message from the Cardinal's Nest MySpace page (I know some of you out there are on MySpace - don't be shy now - make them your friend!):
Dear Friends and Neighbors of Brookland, I would like to welcome you to The Cardinal’s Nest coffee house, internet café, and lounge. We strive to give you the best products, prepared with fresh ingredients and with the strictest quality control. We aim to prepare food that will satisfy vegans, vegetarians, and carnivores alike! We are proud to serve coffee and tea from Orinoco Coffee & Tea, a private, family-owned company that provides gourmet coffee and tea exclusively to specialty stores and gourmet coffee and tea shops. Guests will have access to wireless DSL free of charge. In addition, we also have Ethernet ports and cables available for guest without wireless capabilities. Over 200 power ports are located throughout the establishment available to charge any electronic device you will need! We would like to remind our patrons of the near proximity of neighboring houses on Perry Place. In an effort to minimize noise and disturbances to our neighbors, we would kindly request that patrons keep the noise down when leaving the establishment and refrain from parking on Perry Place at all times. Your help is greatly appreciated. We are proud to serve all our guests and neighbors and look forward to becoming part of the Brookland neighborhood. Call us at (202) 269-NEST or drop us an email at cardinalsnestdc@yahoo.com.

  1. I have had the opportunity to visit the Nest a couple times already, and I intend to become a regular there. Here is what I have sampled thus far: NY Strip, Chicken Sandwich, coffee and Cardinals Nest signature beer! So far I give all of these choices a thumbs up! Their beer is close to a match between Bass Ale and Killians Red! Try it! Say hello to Graham, Great bartender!

  2. I went there. Food is good. Beer is cheap. I think I paid $3 for a beer. Probably go back on the weekends and see if they have any sexy women in there from Catholic College!

  3. Too funny that I discovered this web blog because my buddy and I found this bar on a Wednesday night, and I think they had a private party going on, cause they were giving us free beer and wine, but did not notice we were not with the party! Anyways, it was a cool crowd and they had some cool music playing as well! I think it is close to Catholic University. We found it by accident.

  4. I was there and the food was quite good,

however, $5.50 for 12 oz of Yuengling seems excessive!

  5. It is great to have a decent restaurant in the neighborhood, and I have frequented the restaurant often since it opened. There are a few things that can be improved though. The service is often extremely slow and all of the items on the menu are not always available. Additionally, while the venue is very nice and has potential, Cardinal's Nest could stand to invest in some ambient lighting. Lighting makes a big difference in the feel of a place. One last comment is that the music selection is often far too loud and not all that great. All of this said, I plan to continue to patronize the Cardinal's Nest. With a few minor improvements the Nest will be a true feather in the cap of Brookland.

  7. I've visited the Nest a few times, had a birthday party there last year. Friday, May 18, my friends and i visited the Nest. We ate, drank talked and had a good time, until the band set up. The waiter came over to our table of 5 and told us we would have to pay a cover charge for the band. $10 or $15, We were shocked, we stated we just had dinner and drinks and now you are saying we have to pay? He stated yes, that's not our "Cardinals Nest" policy that's what the band requires. We pay or we'll have to leave. I have never heard of such, i've never been put out of an establishment after I've eaten and drank. It's going to take a BIG apology for me to step foot back in the Cardinal's Nest. I've never heard of such. How can you put your Customers out after they have just eaten and drank at your establishment?

That same band has just costs you alot of customers, because my friends frequent the Nest. After I tell them what happened to us, I'm sure they will change their minds also.
